National Youth Ministry (NYM) - Church of God Papua New Guinea

Empowering Youth for Christ and the Church

Who We Are

The National Youth Ministry (NYM) of the Papua New Guinea Church of God is the official body responsible for mobilizing, equipping, and mentoring young people within the church. Rooted in biblical principles and aligned with the vision of PNGCOG, the NYM exists to develop godly leaders, strengthen youth discipleship, and foster spiritual growth among young people across all 22 provinces of Papua New Guinea.

Our Vision

"To raise a generation of Spirit-filled, Christ-centered, and mission-driven young people who will transform their communities and impact the world for the Kingdom of God."

Our Mission

  • To disciple and empower youth to grow in their faith and service to God.
  • To develop young leaders for effective ministry within the church and society.
  • To unite youth across the country through fellowship, worship, and evangelism.
  • To equip young people with life skills, leadership training, and biblical knowledge.

Our Structure

The NYM operates under the governance of the National Church Board and functions within the three levels of church administration:

  1. National Youth Ministry (NYM) – Led by the National Youth Council (NYC), which consists of Youth Presidents from all 22 provinces.
  2. Provincial Youth Ministries – Managed by Provincial Youth Boards (PYB), overseeing youth activities within each province.
  3. Local Youth Ministries – Coordinated by Local Youth Committees (LYC) at the grassroots level in churches nationwide.

National Youth Council (NYC)

The NYC is the highest decision-making body of the NYM and is composed of 22 Provincial Youth Presidents. The Executive Leadership Team of the NYC includes:

  • Chairperson – Leads the council and represents NYM at the national level.
  • Deputy Chairperson – Assists the Chairperson and steps in when required.
  • Secretary – Keeps records, minutes, and correspondence.
  • Treasurer – Manages finances and ensures transparency.
  • Public Relations Officer (PRO) – Oversees communication, media, and promotions.

The NYC meets twice a year to discuss policies, strategies, and national youth programs.

Our Programs & Activities

The NYM engages in a variety of activities to develop and empower youth, including:

1. National and Provincial Youth Conferences

Annual gatherings where youth from across PNG come together for worship, teaching, leadership training, and fellowship.

2. Youth Leadership Training & Discipleship

Workshops and seminars designed to equip young people with biblical knowledge, leadership skills, and personal development tools.

3. Evangelism & Missions

Mobilizing young people for evangelism and community outreach programs to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

4. Life Skills & Vocational Training

Providing practical skills training to help youth become productive members of society while strengthening their faith.

5. Community Engagement & Social Impact

Encouraging youth to be actively involved in community service, health awareness campaigns, and humanitarian aid projects.

6. Digital Ministry & Social Media Outreach

YOUTH: The Foundation of the Church and Leaders of Tomorrow

Youth as the Foundation of the Church

The Church thrives when its youth are actively involved in its mission. The strength of any church is measured by how well it nurtures and empowers its young generation. Youth bring energy, innovation, and passion to the body of Christ. Their faith and commitment shape the future of the Church, ensuring that the Gospel continues to be preached across generations.

The Bible instructs us to train and guide young people in the ways of the Lord:

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6, NKJV)

When youth are raised in a Christ-centered environment, they develop strong spiritual roots, making them resilient against worldly temptations. As Jesus welcomed and valued children and youth, so must the Church embrace and disciple them:

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14, NIV)
